That’s our family name above the door. It’s on every single bag of malt, and every truck that delivers it. This is more than a business to us. It’s who we are.

Intentionally Inefficient for Flavour
Barley Selection and Purchasing
We inspect all the barley we buy by hand and cherry-pick the best. We move quickly after harvest to ensure we get the best barley available on the market, every year. We can do this due to our size and are always careful to grow organically to avoid having to ever compromise on raw materials.
We champion heritage malts such as Maris Otter, Halcyon, Golden Promise, and Pearl which help our customers differentiate their products from the competition.
Barley selection is so important, that nobody in The Company is allowed to make a barley purchasing decision until they have seen seven harvests!
Processing time
We deliberately take longer than average to malt our barley, because that gives it a better Flavour. We could produce malt quicker and cheaper but choose not to as we will never compromise Flavour. You can’t rush flavour.
Unmatched Quality
Despite producing just 1% of UK malt, we have supplied the malt for 17 of the last 26 Champion Beers of Britain – The choice of champions.

Single Site Consistency
TFS produces the largest range of malt types in the UK, all from our site in Castleford, West Yorkshire. This leads to unrivalled consistency across products. We have our own borehole water supply and are so committed to staying here, we have our lorries specially designed so they can get under our old Victorian arches.

A quarter of the business’ employees have over 25 years’ malting experience bringing decades of hands-on skill, consistency, and pride to every stage of production. We see ourselves as a partner, not a supplier. We’re here to help with any malt-related issues you might have. Our drivers will help strip down a pallet. Our office staff will always answer the phone personally.
Tradition & Innovation
We operate a full range of production facilities, from one of only two working floor maltings in the UK to modern germinating and kilning vessels.
Fresher Malt
We produce all of our malts to order. Final product is not stored on-site for long periods, so that when it gets to our customers, it is as fresh as possible.
