Golden Promise Pale Ale Malt

A heritage spring barley with a rich legacy, Golden Promise brings soft sweetness and full body. Perfectly suited for cask ales and hop-forward beers where its gentle maltiness supports bold flavours.

Golden Promise is a heritage British two-row spring barley variety, often compared with Maris Otter for its rich flavour. It was first recommended for growing in Scotland in 1968 due to its short, stiff straw and with even, but relatively small grain; characteristics that made Golden Promise particularly suited to malt production for distilling. Consequently, it was the dominant barley variety grown in Scotland in the 1970s and early 1980s before it was superseded on farm. Golden Promise continues to be popular with craft brewers and distillers, and as such it is grown under contract in order to ensure its continued availability and is therefore at a premium price. Golden Promise malts produce worts with a soft, sweet character suitable for the production of full-bodied cask-conditioned ales and for balancing a strong hop character in the beer.
