Hobson’s and Fawcett’s decided that after 32 years of trading together, it was time to do a collaboration. Hobson’s was the first contract the late James Fawcett won for Thomas Fawcett & Sons when he joined the company in 1993. After James sadly passed away at the start of the year, Hobson’s welcomed Bevan Fawcett (son) to Hobson’s to learn how to turn their malt into award winning beer. Hobson’s achieved this feat in 2007 when they won CAMRA Champion Mild Winner, a 3.2% classic!
Celebrating a trading relationship
Nick and Bevan decided after a couple of beers in Hobson’s infamous tap room that a collaboration was needed! A chance for Fawcett’s to choose the malts, and for Hobson’s to do what they do best. The recipe includes no less than 6 malts, with Hobson’s love of Maris Otter taking centre stage as the base malt. The use of Red Crystal and Rye malt will contribute significantly to a Red Christmas Ale oozing spicy, nutty, and caramel flavours. This brew is the story of Hobson’s and Fawcett’s dedication to their craft, and a celebration of their trading relationship!
‘Hit for 6’
The final result is a 6% red ale called ‘Hit for 6’, a nod to the shared love of Cricket of Fawcetts and Hobsons. Let us hope the brew turns out better than England’s first test match at Perth.
