The Maltsters Association of Great Britain (MAGB) AGM was held on the 4th of November at The Armourers Hall in the City of London. This is one of the most important gatherings in the malting calendar.
As a maltster supplying brewers and distillers around the world, this event is the perfect opportunity for maltsters to converse on how the industry is doing and on how we can best support the brewing, distilling, and food markets.
The networking side of the event is crucial as it brings together not just maltsters, but grain merchants, farmers, and equipment suppliers together to share their insight across the board. This insight is vital in ensuring as an industry we are always striving to improve the products that go into our customers’ beers and spirits.
It was a year of gratitude as we thanked not only our Chairman Charles Tozer for his tenure, but also Tim Stonehouse (former Chairman) who announced his retirement from the industry after 4 decades at Muntons.
Finally, there were tributes to two large characters who we sadly lost from the industry this year. Our Chairman James Fawcett who died aged 60 in February 2025 received a moments respect from Dr Julian South (Executive Director of the MAGB). Professor Dawn Maskell (Director of the ICBD) gave a touching tribute to Sir Geoffrey Palmer who died aged 85 in June 2025. Sir Geoffrey was a great supporter of education and equality who left us with these words;
“Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not”
– Sir Geoffrey Palmer
We would like to thank the Maltsters Association of Great Britain for organising another excellent AGM, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations in the months ahead.
